Don’t Pluck!

It’s really important not to pluck, wax or epilate any hairs during your laser hair removal treatments.  And you should also avoid using any hair removal creams.

The only method we recommend to remove any unwanted hair in-between your sessions is by shaving.

Follicle Damage

If you self remove hair by plucking, waxing or epilating or using hair removal creams, you can damage the hair follicle or remove it completely which means your next laser hair removal sessions will be unsuccessful.

Laser hair removal works by destroying the hair follicle, so if you have removed or damaged the follicle, then there is nothing for us to destroy and we will miss that batch of hair you have removed.

Hair Growth Cycle

Your hair goes through a natural hair growth cycle in which your follicles grow (anagen / growth stage) and eventually fall out or shed (exogen stage.)  There is also a transition and rest stage in-between.

We can only target and destroy hairs that are in the anagen or growth stage, which is why we need 6 sessions over a 6 month period to fully destroy all the hair follicles.

It would be fantastic if we only needed one laser session, but unfortunately not all your hairs are in the growth stage / cycle at the same time.

If you think about it, this is why we are constantly ‘hairy’ because if we naturally shed all our hair at the same time, we would be bald for a period of time.

Hair removal cream

We do not recommend the use of hair removal creams full stop, but especially in-between your laser sessions.  Your skin following laser treatments is likely to be more sensitive and therefore you may have an unwanted reaction.

Hair removal creams work by using chemicals to break down the protein in the hair, which weakens the bond in the follicle and the hair.  Then ideally your hair will come off when you wipe away the cream.

But it doesn’t always work like that!  Here are some of the adverse reactions:

  • Patchy skin as not all hair removed
  • Chemical burns on the skin
  • Potential allergic reaction

So how do I remove unwanted hair?

Yes you will still grow hair during your laser treatments until we can catch and destroy all hairs in the anagan  / growth stage, so the only method we recommend to remove unwanted hairs is by shaving.

And of course exfoliating your skin will help along the shedding process as we destroy those hair follicles!

Trust the process!

Yes I know it may be tempting to pluck or tweeze out the odd hair, or epilate a patch of hair – but PLEASE DON’T!

Completing your full course and exfoliating your skin throughout the treatments really will help your overall results and eventually you will have silky smooth skin!
