Excess facial hair affects around 5 to 10 Percent of women

Excess facial hair is fairly common and affects around 5 to 10 percent of women.

We provide permanent laser hair removal treatments for lots of women to remove unwanted facial hair from lips, chins and necks.

We are here to help

We know that excess facial hair can cause confidence issues and have huge impacts on peoples lives, so we are here to help.

There are lots of methods to remove facial hair like:

  • Shaving
  • Waxing
  • Plucking
  • Bleaching etc,

But sadly these methods are not permanent and some methods can cause further irritations to the skin.  Constant shaving can leave skin with razor burn, ingrown hairs, rashes and dry skin.

Laser hair removal is the permanent and perfect solution to remove unwanted facial hair, leaving your skin smooth and silky soft.  Plus we do see an improvement to overall skin texture after laser.

Our treatments are QUICK, SAFE and EFFECTIVE.

Plus our high grade medical laser is up to 5X more powerful than most UK machines, so we aim for excellent results leaving your skin super soft and beautiful.

We understand that this is a delicate and sensitive matter, but, honestly, we see, and successfully treat many women with excess facial hair.

We recommend a minimum of 6 treatments, however, you may need an additional session, this all depends on individual cases, hormones etc.

What causes excess facial hair

Excess facial hair may be caused by a few conditions:

  • Hirsutism
  • PCOS
  • Menopause / Pre-menapause
  • Being overweight / age
  • Certain medications
  • Or an underlying condition

There is a great article from lloyds online pharmacy – please click here to read.

It is always best to consult your GP who will be able to conduct some tests.  We are able to treat the excess hair but not the symptoms that are causing this.

Yes we get it tough ladies – but again, we are here to help and successfully treat many ladies with this issue.

Hirsutism

This results in excessive growth of dark or coarse hair in a male-like pattern — face, chest and back. With hirsutism, extra hair growth often arises from excess male hormones (androgens), primarily testosterone.

Hirsutism refers to the growth of coarse, dark hair in areas where women typically grow fine hair or no hair at all: above the lip and on the chin, chest, abdomen, and back.

A woman with the mildest form of hirsutism may notice significant growth of hair on the upper lip, chin, sideburn area, and around the nipples or lower abdomen. This hair will be mature hair, or hair that is the same color as that growing on the scalp.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) .

This again is a common hormone disorder that can cause a range of symptoms, including hirsutism, which is excess facial and body hair. While many with PCOS grow thicker hair on their face and body, some experience hair thinning and hair loss, which is referred to as female pattern hair loss.

Menopause

The ratio of estrogen to androgens (including the “male” hormone testosterone) will decrease with menopause, since ovarian estrogen production goes down but testosterone levels don’t change as dramatically. This shift can be associated with increased hair growth and may explain why you have more facial hair.

We would recommend that you look at removing any unwanted hair with laser hair removal as this will destroy the follicles permanently.  We would also recommend that you do this prior to starting any hormone replacement therapy (HRT) as we are unable to treat you if you are on certain medications.
We will work with you and your GP for the best solution.  For example, you can take small breaks from certain medications just prior to treatments so they are out of your system, and then recommence in-between treatments.  Again we will carefully discuss this with you during your consultation.

Please Don’t leave it too late

And for the final blow ladies – please don’t leave your facial hair too long before deciding to treat and remove it.  Unfortunately as we age, the hair will eventually turn white/grey and no laser, not even our high medical grade machine can get rid of grey hair.
This is because there is no melanin / colour in the hair follicle which means it can’t absorb the laser so it can not be destroyed.
We can treat fair / blonder hair due to the power of our laser and we did manage to remove and destroy a good percentage of clients whiter/lighter hair – but we cant guarantee results on grey hair, so please just contact us as soon a possible if you want us to remove any excess hair.
